LABUBU Lands in Bangkok for 50th Anniversary of Thai-Chinese Diplomatic Relations, Ignites Tourism with Cultural Journey

July 8, 2024

The celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China includes various events, highlighted today by the “Welcome Ceremony of LABUBU.” The LABUBU mascot boarded Hainan Airlines Flight HU429 in Beijing and was greeted warmly upon arrival at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport by Mr. Sermsak Pongpanit, Minister of Tourism and Sports, among other dignitaries.

The ceremony also welcomed notable attendees including Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor; Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira Pheuk-um, Commissioner of the Tourist Police; and representatives from the Chinese Embassy and several Thai and international business leaders.

Mr. Sermsak expressed enthusiasm about the joint efforts of TAT and POP MART to promote Thailand’s tourism through LABUBU’s engaging activities, enhanced by the new 60-day visa-free entry policy for citizens of 93 countries, including China.

During the ceremony, LABUBU was bestowed with the title “Amazing Thailand Experience Explorer,” setting the stage for its journey through Bangkok’s top attractions. These activities encompass a curated selection of experiences: indulging in Thai cuisine, attending a Thai cultural show, exploring Thai culture, purchasing Thai fabrics, and learning Muay Thai.

Ms. Thapanee highlighted the thematic vision of the event, “POPMART LABUBU X TAT IGNITE THAILAND,” which integrates LABUBU as a travel storyteller. This initiative aims to entice LABUBU’s extensive fanbase in China to explore Thailand.

From July 2-4, LABUBU, donned in traditional Thai attire, will be featured in promotional videos visiting iconic sites and engaging in cultural activities. These include dining by the Chao Phraya River, navigating Bangkok in an electric tuk-tuk, shopping at Siam Discovery and Siam Square, and experiencing Muay Thai at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.

In collaboration with Qunar.com, TAT is promoting travel packages inspired by LABUBU's adventures, available until September 1. These initiatives are designed to boost tourism and are expected to attract 20,000 travelers and achieve a promotional reach of at least 500 million.
